AI for Finance Training

AI training designed around the work finance professionals actually do: research, modelling, diligence, drafting and review.

The objective is not to teach another set of prompts. It is to change how finance teams research, analyse, model and communicate, without giving up judgement or control. Practitioner-led, and grounded in how Third Wave uses AI in its own investment research.

The licence is not the change

Most banks and funds have rolled out an AI assistant. Delegates attend a session, learn a few prompts, and return to the same workflow on Monday. Generic AI training fails finance teams because it is not built around their tasks, their data constraints or their standard of accuracy.

We train on the work itself. A coverage banker, an equity analyst and a credit analyst each leave with workflows for their own job, a clear view of where AI should not be used, and the habit of checking every output against source.

  • Workflows, not prompts

We start from the task: an earnings review, a precedent screen, a model check. The tool is chosen to fit the work, not the other way round.

  • Finance first

AI makes a good analyst faster and a weak one more confidently wrong. Our AI training sits on top of the modelling, valuation and investing courses, not in place of them.

  • Verify before it leaves the desk

Every workflow ends with a check against source. Delegates learn where models are reliable, where they invent, and how to tell the difference.

  • Built to outlast the product cycle

Products and branding change every few months. Habits of decomposition, sourcing and review do not, so that is what we train.

Training by Role

Each track is built from the tasks a team performs every week. Tracks can run on their own, be combined, or be layered into a wider analyst programme.

AI Governance for Finance Teams

Regulated, client-facing teams need more than productivity tips. This module covers the practical guardrails for using AI on finance work, and can run on its own for leadership, risk and COO audiences.

We train teams to work within their firm's policy. We do not provide legal or compliance advice.

  • Confidential and client information
  • Material non-public information
  • Intellectual property and data residency
  • Hallucination and source verification
  • Auditability of AI-assisted work
  • Approved versus unapproved tools
  • Human accountability for every output
  • Model risk and the limits of judgement

Tool-agnostic by design

Training can cover ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot alongside Excel and the research tools your team already uses. Where your firm has standardised on one approved tool, we train on that one. The workflows are written so they survive the next product launch.

Core course

AI-Native Productivity & Workflows

1 day (modular) · All levels

A hands-on, practitioner-led programme that embeds AI-native workflows into everyday finance work, from research and modelling to writing and review, tailored to each segment of finance.

How an AI programme runs

  1. 1

Diagnose. We start with the audience, their baseline, the work they actually do and what the programme has to change.

  2. 2

Design. We build a curriculum from our modules, or adapt your existing one, pitched at the cohort's level and set in your sector.

  3. 3

Deliver. Case-led, hands-on sessions: delegates attempt the exercise first, then we work through the solution together.

  4. 4

Embed. Templates, worked solutions and follow-up sessions so the skills carry over to live work after the programme ends.

AI for Finance: Common Questions

Is this a ChatGPT or Copilot tutorial?

No. We teach finance workflows that use AI: research, modelling, diligence, drafting and review. Tools are the means, so the training stays useful when products and branding change.

Which AI tools can the training cover?

ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot, alongside the spreadsheet and research tools your team already uses. Where your firm has an approved tool, we train on that one.

How do you handle confidential information during training?

Exercises use public filings, transcripts and sample models, not client data. We work within your firm's approved tools and AI policy, and cover what should and should not go into an AI system as part of the course.

Does AI replace financial modelling skills?

No. AI is fast at extraction, first drafts and checking. Judgement about drivers, assumptions and what the numbers mean stays with the analyst, which is why our AI training sits on top of our modelling and valuation courses rather than replacing them.

Do you provide legal or compliance advice on AI use?

No. We train on practical guardrails for finance teams. Your legal and compliance functions set the policy; we help teams work within it.

Who is the training for?

Every level, from analyst to partner. Content is set by role: a bank's coverage team, a fund's research team and a corporate development team each get workflows built around their own work.
